The Jaunt I would like to talk about the novel The Jaunt. First, I will tell you something about the two parallel-running storylines the novel has, then I will move on to talk about the theme that the novel is based around. After that, I will talk about the dialogue in the novel since there is very little action takes place in the novel, and most of it is dialogue. I will round the essay off with a conclusion, where I discuss, whether I think the story is good or bad and why. This novel has two parallel-running storylines. One of them is the actual story, and the other one is a story told by the father, Mark Oates, in the story. In the end of the novel, the two stories sort of collapses, meaning that a thing that happened in the story the father told, happened in the actual story. The thing that happens in the end of the novel, would the reader not be able to understand, if the story, that Mark told, was not told. There is thematic statements in the text that points towards that it is about the future of earth, for example: “the jaunt was invented about three hundred and twenty years ago, around the year 1987” on page one. Also on page two “Because in the years between 1960 and 2030, we poisoned most of ours”, where they were talking about water. These two quotes from the text tells you something about what will happen the future. It tells you that we will ruin earth for ourselves, and some of the most valuable resources such as the water.
