The Middle colonies believed in more of a diverse culture with multiple religions, cultures, languages, etc. Now there’s the economy. The New England colonies were more of an industrial type of economy because most of their land was infertile. The Middle colonies mostly just relied on farmers, craftsmen, and merchants. The
Colonists who came to America differed greatly in backgrounds and settled for various reasons: Colonist in the New England Colony came to America primarily because they were religious reformers and separatist seeking a new way of life; the Middle Colony was inhabited by a tolerant and diverse group of people with different backgrounds; And the Southern Colony was mainly inhabited by English aristocrats, small farmers, and slaves. Because each colonial region inhabited different groups of colonists the social development differed greatly in each region. New England was founded on the Puritan faith and maintained a strong sense of faith, family, and community. New Englan was very strict on enforcing a strong sense Puritan religion, the lifestyle of colonist revolved around the puritan faith, so much so, it was referred to the "city upon a hill". Contrasting greatly with the New England Colony, the Middle Colony was greatly social and religiously diverse.
By the mid seventeenth century, England had secured its claim to several west indian islands. The colonies continued to develop between 1607 and 1754. In the Southern Colonies, religion was a big factor in the development of this colonial region because it impacted the political developments, affected the social developments, and lastly the religion sometimes varied with the development of the New England Colonies. Colonists in the southern territory were a mixture of religions including Baptist and Anglicans. The Southern Colonies consisted of Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
Besides English settlers there were numerous other representatives of the European countries settling in the new land. And as the Puritans came to practice their own believes so did other nationalities, as explained in the study material. In my own interpretation America represents change and the believe system as well as the way religion was previously practiced was now changing. This change was greatly influenced by the intellectual movement called Enlightenment, which started in Europe and this influence had bearing on the Great Awakening. Besides Puritans now there were Catholics in Maryland, Quakers in Pennsylvania and the Episcopal Church in the southern states.
The Middle Colonies include present day New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. Culturally, the Middle Colonies were the most diverse of the three regions due to the arrival of immigrants from many different areas of Europe all with different religious devotions. The majority of the Middle Colonies engaged in agriculture for a living and large estates were more common in these colonies. Colonists in this region also desired manufactured goods like the ones in England, resulting in the development of Triangle Trade. Like the New England region, the aristocracy was composed of successful merchants and wealthy landowners.
Religious freedom in the British colonies was supposed to be on a level of understanding with the different type of beliefs. However, the distinct status of tolerance, economic goal, and political power made it clear that the colonies only relied on what the superior religious leader had to say about their community. Therefore, despite the settlements trying to protect their reputation, the people were learning the truth behind the walls of the church. The New England colony settled away from the Church of England, which was mainly made up of Puritans.
The people who settled in Colonial Massachusetts had a very religious point of view. Their whole goal was to create a puritan society. This led to them being very unified and working together as a community for the greater
Religion played a great role in the establishment of the English colonies. The main reason the English traveled to North America was to escape religious persecution. Once the English settled in they created colonies, and established rules for a religious society. They would also try to convert Natives into Christianity, and they established universities to practice ministry. Once the English settlers got to North America, the House of Burgesses in 1619 said they would try to convert Native children specifically boys into a “ true religion”, then eventually teach them how teach them how to be Christian civil people.
I would have preferred British Middle colonies to live. First of all, the middle colonies were the most diverse ethnically and culturally. This colony is full of different kind of religion, which helps us to know about religious and traditional importance of many religions. There were many religious tolerant. Another thing I like farming so the land in the middle colonies was very fertile where we can grow many types of crops and food so that I don 't have to pay money for fruits, vegetables and food.
New England’s founders were strict Puritans who did not have much tolerance for any religion except their own. Over time, as more and more immigrants came with increasingly diverse beliefs, the once stable foundation began to crack. Conflicts broke out and certain religious groups were banished which led to the development of other nearby colonies, for example Rhode Island and Connecticut. In the Chesapeake region, it was easier and there was not as much controversy over religion. The area started out as a refuge for Catholics, but over time many Protestants immigrated there and soon became the majority.
New England’s economy would also be influenced by the British tax later that would cause Americans to revolt many of which trusted in their faith to guide them The Puritans who settled in Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630 were also motivated by religious beliefs. They believed in the idea of a "city upon a hill," a vision of a holy community that would serve as an example to the rest of the world (American YAWP, 2.6). This belief led to a strict social order and a commitment to the moral and spiritual purity of the community. It also led to conflicts with other religious groups, such as the Quakers, who were seen as a threat to the Puritan social order.
This tolerance also emerges out of decreasing religions during the 18th century. According to Macmillan Learning, the decrease in religious importance helped to unify the country 's (129). As time progress more people were focusing on world events than previously in the 1700’s. Britain had lax control over the colonies at this point, the colonies tended to follow the same rules of governing even though the colonies were separate entities. This added to the sense of unity between nations.
Does the rebellion of England 13 colonies can be found in the 16th century? The thirteen colonies initially was the most ideal way to start a new country for the England’s. But tragic events political and economic occurred in England by 16th century that give different directions on how the 13 colonies they would be to act. Several impositions were added the taxes levied to the colonies, the exemption of taxes from those of trading companies, the restriction of trade, and the different wars. Influenced to the colonies to start the rebellion.
New England and the Middle Colonies are 2 Colonies that are total opposites from each other, but do have some similarities. New England had no religious freedom because if you were not puritan then you could not live there. On the other hand, the Middle Colonies did have religious freedom, you could be a Quaker, Lutheran, Jewish, Catholic or French and a lot more as well. New England and the Middle Colonies share some similarities based on religion and other things as well. Some similarities were that the church was an important part of both New England and Middle Colonies towns.
Demographically, English settlements were more family oriented than that of the southern colonies. The majority of settlers consisted of families of six children per household and overall the amount of men and women equaled each other as well as the amount of adults to children. The settlers that lived in the New England colonies were dissenters from the Church of England. Predominantly consisting of Puritans, religious freedoms did not exist throughout the northern colonies. They established a congregational church, which is where meetings regarding government policies would take place.
