John Colter and Tom Murphy, where two men who had the same dream. The dream of exploring Yellowstone park. Yellowstone park is in Wyoming Both men had packs Johns weighing thirty pounds and Toms weighing around 70/80 pounds with every thing he need to live including... food, A portable stove, camera gear, down jacket, huge warm mittens, a small emergency kit, a headlamp, two water bottles, and a three pound sleeping bag, john on the other hand had a thirty pound pack, some ammunition and his gun John Colter's shelter was much different from Tom Murphy's . For John Colter's shelter he had a trading fort. Tom Murphy however had only a tarp tied onto a stick frame with rope.
On the afternoon of August 9, 2014 an African-American male by the name of Michael Brown was fatally shot to death by a Caucasian male police officer named Darren Wilson in Ferguson, MO. An investigation was immediately launched through the collection of evidence from the crime scene, multiple autopsies of Michael Brown’s body, and interviews with witnesses. For several months following the shooting and after the Grand Jury adjourned, there was immense public speculation and scrutiny over whether Officer Wilson justifiably shot in self-defense or in racially motivated cold blooded murder. This event produced protests, riots, and national media coverage. The two conflicting sides of the story were that Michael Brown was shot in the back with
Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
Some students tend to forget their teachers when they are done with school. Melissa Hoebee, a teacher who currently teaches in Southern Middle School, shares about her life in teaching and life experiences from her childhood to today. She chose to be a teacher because she wanted to help people learn in school. These life experiences and events before in her childhood helped her become the teacher she is today. In the Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls analyzed her mother’s emotional breakdowns. In one instance, she notices “... the positive thoughts would give way to negative thoughts, and the negative thoughts seemed to swoop into her mind the way a big flock of black crows takes over the landscape, sitting thick in the trees and on the fence rails and lawns, staring at you in ominous silence” (Walls 418). Negative thoughts can consume one’s mind, whereas the positive thoughts are nugatory. The negative thoughts keep a person agonizing and stressing over it. This quote emphasizes how a negative mindset can make a person depressed or ill to be around.
Decisions made in the 1850s ultimately decided the United States fate. From the election of 1856 to the Dred Scott case, the nation would become divided into two. The South was pro-slavery and supported the idea of slavery expanded into western territories, while the North opposed of the idea and was mainly against expanding slavery. Until the 1850s the nation barely balanced the slavery issue.
In today’s society, we have former National Football League(NFL) quarterback Collin Kapernick who’s no longer in the NFL because of his protest against racial inequality. However, many people believe he is no longer in the NFL because of his talent. Kapernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl 47. Although they didn’t win, he threw for 302 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 62 yards. Therefore, he didn’t get kicked out of the league because he wasn’t good enough, but for sitting down during the national anthem.
The question of morality in a criminal case has always been a topic of concern. A question arises when considering the following; does a good cause justify a serious crime? In John Brown’s case, he uses the abolitionist’s cause to justify the murder of several men. Though his intentions were good, and his cause was mighty, it’s not morally sound to murder people. Many would argue that he was a hero, that fighting for the end of slavery in the manner he did was an act of bravery.
In life some feel the need to prove something to others. That they are better, stronger, or even more intelligent. Whatever the case may be people will go through extreme measures to prove themselves. But who do we really need to prove anything to? Is it our parents?
People rebel when no justice being served. It is understandable why people act a certain way. Have you ever loved someone more than yourself? A person is your biggest pride and joy to be safe? Can you imagine how it feels to no longer have your pride and joy with in a split second, due to the way they look?
It took just forty five days for United States citizens to acquiesce their rights to freedom and privacy for the sake of safety following the events of September 11, 2001. Forty five days is how long it took the United States Congress to pass a law that gave up the very concept of liberty upon which this country is founded. The morning sky was a brilliant shade of blue with not a cloud in sight in New York on that fateful day of September. That all changed at 8:45 AM when a Boeing 767 jet plane tore into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Eighteen minutes later, a second Boeing 767 bit into the sixtieth floor of the south tower.
In the gruesome short story “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe a nameless narrator tells his story of his drunken and moody life before he gets hung the next day. The intoxicated narrator kills his favorite cat, Pluto and his wife with an axe. Soon enough, the narrator gets caught and there he ends up, in jail. Although, most readers of “The Black Cat” have argued the narrators insanity, more evidence have shown that he is just a moody alcoholic with a lousy temper.
This does give chocolate some properties that are bodily healthy for us. Chocolate eaters are encouraged to eat more given the information of flavonoids, a healthy natural chemical and antioxidant. “Flavonoids help protect plants from environmental toxins and help repair damage. They can be found in a variety of foods such as fruits and vegetables. When we eat food rich in flavonoids, it appears we also benefit from this antioxidant power.”
Our Something from Nothing Unit was designed to help students acquire positive attitudes towards reading and books. Our goal was to make the unit as enjoyable for students as possible, while ensuring they are working towards mastery of the expectations from the Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum. With the goal of student enjoyment in mind, we chose the book Something from Nothing because we found that many students love this story and can relate to, Joseph, the boy whose belongings are wearing out over time. We began the unit by doing a read-aloud.
