Fiction, in a way, can be reality and it can teach you several things. As you read fiction, it encourages people to the find the deeper meaning in themes, conflicts and social issues by imagining and analyzing the actual situation in the novel they are reading. In the book, “The Things They Carried,” by Tim O’Brien it makes you imagine, through a soldier's perspective, the struggles of the Vietnam War. It talks about what they thought, did, and feared. Inside the Vietnam War, it was all about brotherhood. Although, when that brotherhood breaks, you lose it; you lose yourself. To me, brotherhood means you can trust and care for each other as brothers because of the time you’ve spent with one another. Whether it be in our daily lives or inside the horrors of the Vietnam War. In the article, “Vietnam War veterans: 'Strong band of brotherhood was welded under fire',” it says, “That's why our bond is so strong," McNeill said. "All we had was each other. We did the best we could with what we had.” They didn’t have much. All they had was their will to live and each other for support. With those two things, they tried their best to survive. In the article, “Vietnam vet writes story of brotherhood and loss,” it says, “The hardships and horrors of war made them closer than brothers. In some ways, they were closer than they would ever allow themselves to become with another human being.” Even through training, before the Vietnam War, they became close. With some, they didn’t become close but with others, they became as close as brothers like family. The theme of brotherhood teaches us that if you’re going through hardships, there are others who are going through the same struggles. With that, you can create a brotherhood bond and help each other go through them. You are never alone when it comes to problems whether it be family issues, financial problems, or others kinds of
