War has many hardships from death to missing family. Soldiers during this time need people to get through the hardships together. Soldiers with their fellow soldiers create a relationship with each other greater than a friendship, almost like love. It’s called brotherhood. A soldier’s brothers are people they can spend time with not during combat. They are there for each other when no one else is. This benefits the soldiers because their brothers they make memories with and they make each other feel better. The bonds created in the war affect soldiers because during the war the create a brotherhood with their fellow soldiers and create a bond stronger than friendship that helps them through the war. This quote shows how Timothy in this situation cared about his men getting killed and didn’t want it to happen so he took a risk by firing at civilians to keep his men alive. Following this, a similar quote by Sebastian Junger talks about how during a fight the “death” of one soldier affects another. In All quiet on the western front Paul and Kat create a relationship known as brotherhood, they are there for each other at all times. Also this brotherhood relationship is a bond stronger than a regular friendship. In all quiet on the western front they represent this perfectly with Paul and Kat. It says, “We sit opposite one another, Kat and I, two soldiers in shabby coats, cooking a goose in the middle of the night.
