For starters, I was born in the greatest country in the world, best state in the country, and raised in the most perfect city with the best environment possible because of my parents. The place I am describing -the place I call home- is Brownsville, Texas. While many people would argue that Brownsville is not the best place to raise a family because of poverty levels, low income, illegal aliens, poor schools, and our close proximity to Mexico However, all of these factors have actually helped shape me into who I am today. In addition, my parents were also born and raised here in Brownsville, Texas hence, they are both products of our local public school system BISD that is largely criticized. Just those things alone have made them into very inspirational people to some. In fact, they may be the greatest inspiration of all time, a true definition of child looking up to his parents.
Right away, both of my parents had high expectations for me. At a young age college was instilled in me as the only possible route I could take; which was okay because as an adolescent I held great pride that both my parents went to college. This is because where I live many of the older population never got past high school. In addition, some of my peers would be the first in their family to even finish high school. As for my mother, she taught me that my education and school is important and always will be. In elementary, she would hound me with my grades and ensure that my grades never fell below a “B” because that was failing to the standards she had for me. When I was a child, I always pondered the reason for her having these ways. I always knew school was indispensable, but why to this extreme? I wouldn’t understand until years to come.
