In one perspective, he is a traitor because he murdered the leader of Rome in cold-blood. Even worse, Brutus was one of Caesar’s most trusted advisors and friend. Many saw him as this, including Mark

Admittedly, there are some people who believe that Caesar was to powerful and needed to be taken out.
In conclusion, was Brutus a betrayer or a patriot? Brutus was a betrayer because he is a liar and a killer. Brutus could have done anything else instead of killing Caesar for the sake of Rome. Caesar was Brutus’s friend but, Brutus was manipulated into thinking that Caesar was a horrible king that had to be stopped. If Brutus was Caesar’s friend he would have never killed him.
Brutus' use of a simile comparing Caesar to an adder in its shell demonstrates this perfectly. While yes, Caesar showed little to be suspected of abusing power, as Brutus said, “And, to speak truth of Caesar, I have not known when his affections swayed more than his reason (II, i, 19-21).” This alone shows that Caesar clearly was not showing anything to be considered a reason as to him being power hungry or looking to abuse power, however the conspirators had little options as if he became too powerful, it’d already be too late for them to dethrone
Although he done it for Rome it still shows he’s a very dishonorable since he betrayed his friend Caesar. After Brutus killed Caesar he later began to have mixed feelings about what he had done. The example of Brutus betraying Caesar supports my claim because it shows he’s a bad person. One who betrays someone, especially their own friend will always be seen as a bad and dishonorable person. If Brutus wanted to be a good friend instead of a follower of the conspirators he would have sat down and talked to Caesar about all the problems.
He might be loyal to his country, but he did not have to kill someone to prove it. In the play Brutus says, “ but for his ambition, I killed him.” That was the excuse for killing Caesar. Basically meaning, he feared Caesar ambition would create difficulties in the country’s fate.
Brutus killed Caesar out of honor because he felt it was the best thing to do for the people of Rome. Brutus only wanted what was best for the people of Rome and the people around him. This can be seen in his speech in Act III, Scene ii, lines 18 through 19, “If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer: not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.” Brutus explains that he killed Caesar not out of hate for him but because he felt it was for the good of Rome. Brutus was also an honorable man and the people around him knew that he was.

Brutus most certainly is a patriot considering even Antony said that he truly had good intentions. Although this may be true, some people view Brutus as a traitor due to him killing Caesar, claiming he was ambitious and Antony easily disproved this. Contrary of what some people think, Brutus is a patriot because he killed Caesar to free Rome from his rule, Antony even stated that he did not act out of jealousy and was noble.
Brutus was a traitor to his country because of his display of treason. However, Brutus may have done what was best for Rome, to improve and reestablish his beloved country. Similarly, people may claim that Brutus was, in fact doing what was best for his country, and that murdering Caesar was not a betrayal. He seems to feel that Caesar would not be an asset to Rome and Brutus wants to really improve the country.
Initially, after reading the story, I was confused on whether or not Brutus counted as a betrayer or a patriot and it seemed almost impossible to find out, but as I thought more on it, I discovered he had limited time before Caesar was officially crowned so he had limited options. However, I believe Brutus was a patriot because instead of joining the conspiracy right away when he is offered the chance by Cassius, he refuses because he does not think Caesar deserves something so harsh. Once Cassius plants the fake notes from Rome Brutus decides to kill Caesar because he doesn’t want the people becoming Caesars slaves. So instead of wanting to kill Caesar out of jealousy like Cassius, he just wanted to kill him in order for him not to turn the people of Rome into slaves.
