It is believed by the common people that Buddhism and Hinduism are very similar in their beliefs, rituals, and practices. A similarity between the two religions is that each religion encourages one to seek out happiness through positive thinking. However, the process in which each religion pursues this state of happiness is different from each other. A major difference between Buddhism and Hinduism is how many gods each one believes in. Buddhism believes in its one god Buddha and Hinduism believes in its many gods rather than just one god. What really brings both religions together, in the end, is that the final goal for both religions is finding true happiness. The Buddhist way of life is seeking out the path to true happiness and inner peace. How would one obtain this state of mind in such a cruel and sinful environment? Hindus live according to the dharma, the principle of cosmic order. The dharma consists of many lists to assist a Hindu in achieving his goal of living a good life. Two lists from the dharma consist of The Four Noble Truths and The Noble Eighfold Path. The Four Noble Truths are these: there is suffering, the origin of suffering is craving, there is an end to suffering, and the way to eliminate suffering is by following the noble eighfold path. Hinduism believes these four simple truths and uses The Noble Eighfold Path to relieve one from his earthly suffering. The three main points of The Noble Eighfold Path are wisdom, ethical conduct, and concentration. Wisdom is that one must have right understanding and thoughts throughout his life. Ethical conduct is showing his kindness through his everyday actions. Concentration is putting in the effort needed to live a good life. If one can live by these three simple points, then he will achieve true
