Imagine wanting to kill yourself just because some dumb people decide to pick on you every day. It is horrid knowing that 12.1 per cent of students consider suicide yearly from bullying. So today I am arguing that bullying in Australia has been pushed too far away from other events like Covid 19 that we neglect the appalling consequences that bullying can affect us students and teenagers. There are three reasons I want to speak about bullying today: bullying in Australia affects students tremendously, bullying never ceases and affects the economy and lastly, bullying can lead to many suicides and this should be a crime.

An American poet, Susan Polis Schutz once quoted “Getting better from depression demands a lifelong commitment.” So you must be thinking why did I display this quote? Well, I want to say that recovering from bullying takes people a lifetime and not just a couple of months. According to aihw.gov.au, 69% of students bullied have been reported with a major depressive disorder. 525 million dollars is a lot of money. By now you would think the Australian government would have solved the bullying problem or at least reduced the number of people bullied a year. But that is completely wrong. In 2009 27% of all students in Australia were reported to have been bullied. In the present 2022 53% of all Students in Australia were reported as being bullied. (Ljubica Gjorgievska, 2023) Using these 525 million dollars the Australian Government has managed to increase the number of students bullied by 26%. From 2009 to 2022 the Australian government has spent a total of 6825 million dollars to make no progress in stopping the issue of bullying. This shows that bullying has been pushed away too far to see its real
