One survey question reads, “If you ever experienced a form of bullying, how did it make you feel? Did you go to someone for help?” One student answered this question by saying, “yes it made me feel really shitty and made me hurt myself. No, I did not go for help, nobody would listen.” This student shows that they chose to not say anything because they feel or know that nobody would listen anyway.
I believe that districts should take a comprehensive approach to bullying. There should be collaboration between school administrators, teachers, parents and students to tackle bullying. Bullying is an undesirable, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves actual disparity of power. According to Megan Brooks bullying is a serious public health problems, with significant short-and long-term psychological consequences for the child who is bullied and the child who is the bully. As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe.
