In Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag is introduced to the reader as he burns books with a ridiculously evil grin on his face. Fahrenheit 451 takes place in a futuristic world where firemen burn books instead of putting out fires. Guy meets his neighbor, Clarisse, who is chatty and yet observant. She makes Guy Montag realize how unhappy he is with the life he leads. Montag goes in his house only to discover that his wife has overdosed on sleeping pills, luckily she does not die.
