In the 19th century, individuals became incredibly wealthy due to the rapid expansion of railroads throughout the United States. These railroad tycoons amassed fortunes by investing in and controlling the transportation industry. The development of railroads allowed for faster and more efficient transportation of goods and people, ultimately leading to the growth of cities and industries across the country. There is no denying the significant impact these individuals had on American history and the economy. Cornelius Vanderbilt, also known as the "Commodore," was a prominent figure in American business during the 19th century.
During the latter half of the nineteenth century, the American Industrial Revolution sprung up. The steel industry began America’s climb to a global leader in industry. More people were drawn to the booming economy rather than to politics. The American industrial revolution was in full gear, and most men had a hunger for wealth rather than for Congress or presidency. During this time, the railroad became a massive industry, not just for transportation, but also for production building of the railroads.
At the onset of the late 19th century, the US experienced an influx of new industries, some of which were dominated by a single corporation. With the invention of the Bessemer process, the industries of steel, oil, and railroads boomed. Prior to the rapid industrialization, people lived in rural communities and manufacturing was done largely by local craftsmen. After the Civil War, certain needs were emphasized such as the need for faster production, transportation, and better communication. All of these needs were met by the Industrial Revolution due to technological advancements. These advancements had great effects on the structure of cities at the time.
The era of early 1900 was regarded as business expansion and progressive reforms. By 1900’s the United State became a very rich and powerful nation as a result of industrialization and urbanization. Its economy transferred into a major world economy. However, this massive transition has both good and bad effects and great changes in American society caused many problems which called for reforms that’s why era of 1900 is called progressive era. These reforms included political, economic and social reforms.

There were both cultural and economic changes during this time, such as the transcontinental railroad, businessmen, the depression , and the living conditions of the lower class. The transcontinental railroad produced an increased demand in manufacturing since the businesses would now grow and trade in larger amounts.
WW1 was the first major war where airplanes were used as an important part of the army. When WW1 began, airplanes played a small role in the battles. But by the end of WW1, the air force became an important branch of the army. At the start of WW1, airplanes were very simple. But by the time WW1 has ended, airplanes had become more developed and weapons were added to it like, bombs and guns.

In a time after the Civil War, when a transcontinental railroad was created connecting the East and West, people began to move and settle across the country, creating new urban cities and manufacturing hubs. It was because of the railroad that the Second Industrial Revolution and the Gilded Age took place which rapidly increased the manufacturing of products through the new machines in factories and the spread of ideas by the telegraph and railroad. It was in this context that many farmers, as well, began to move West and experience a loss in the prices of their crops. It is also in this context that many workers were forced to work long, laborious hours with little pay. Farmers responded to industrialization in the Gilded Age by forming organizations such as the Granger movement and the Farmers Alliance as well as creating the Populist Party.
Between the year of 1865 and the year of 1920, the United States moved towards becoming a more industrialized and developing society. With this change taking place, resulted in improvement with how people live with family and earned money differently. The three major aspects of industrialization during the 1865 and 1920 that influenced the politics, economy and society of the United States are: entrepreneurship, technology, as well as transport and communication network. Entrepreneurship: the period after the Civil War from 1865 to 1920 was characterized by fast economic growth in the country.

Companies could really thrive, as the United States government, adopted a policy of Laissez Faire. This is also about the time that immigration really kicked up, more and more immigrants were showing at Ellis Island, looking for a new start.
In both the early and late 19th century there were a lot of things that contributed to the growth of America. Economically, during this point in time there was extreme growth. Up to the end of the Civil war, the way people went about life was about to change even more than what has already changed in the last fifty years. Post-Civil war, over 4 million slaves were freed. They migrated and assimilated towards the pacific coast and towards northern states.
