Philosophy entails the study of general problems regarding certain matters such as knowledge, existence, language, mind, reality, reason, and values. The study can be conducted using various methods which include rational argument, critical discussion, systematic representation, and questioning. As opposed to science which often strives to seek new evidence and data, philosophy tends to examine already available information with the sole purpose of reaching a reasonable perspective. In philosophy, questions can be categorized into various groups such as epistemology and metaphysics, mathematics and science, value theory, and philosophical traditions. For example, in the case of Metaphysics, it deals with the general features of reality, such as time, processes, causation, events, and objects. Epistemology deals with the study of various sources of knowledge, such as memory, testimony, self and perpetual knowledge, reason, a priori, and intuition. As for value theory, it addresses certain topics which deal with justice, beauty, goodness, political philosophy, and ethics. However, it is important to note that the existence of the different categories is not static meaning that there are other groups created each time. Today, philosophy is being applied in different platforms such as business organizations, companies, healthcare, and academic institutions as a set of precepts and guidelines. Some of the common application areas include problem solving techniques, communication skills, writing skills, and persuasive powers. It lays down the foundation for critical thinking, creative thinking, decision making, and encouraging communality due to sharing of ideas. After identifying the assumptions, they can remedy the various forms which appear to be unclear, vague, and ambiguous by drawing reasonable conclusions using the available evidence and data. The value of philosophy becomes clear, especially when philosophers are using some knowledge as evidence as a means to an end. The questions are asked based on the evidence helps both philosophers and other individuals to enlarge their conception of what seems possible by enriching their intellectual imagination with new ideas. Thus, they can change the position they hold about on something that seemed to be already answered. This not only improves the critical thinking capabilities of philosophers or other persons, but also keeps the society free. Therefore, much of certain beliefs in economics, social science, business, and religious practices, contain various intangible elements and questions regarding values, can be dealt with using philosophy. Often, many people fail to recognize that such areas are mainly philosophical and that they require deeper sustained thoughts than they are usually allocated and as a result, they end up not withstanding scrutiny or accepting any new beliefs being introduced.
