We are CCHS students, declaring ourselves independent from the school’s rules and the authority it has over us. We refuse to follow the school’s policies and wish to determine our own actions.
As students, we have the natural right to make use of our educational investment. Also, we have the rights of liberty, privacy, speech, and property which a school must respect.
A school is an institution built to provide an education to students while granting a comfortable environment where the students can enjoy spending time. We arrive at the school, expecting the teachers and staff to treat all students equally and maintain a pleasant atmosphere. Often times, the students feel mistreated and taken advantage of. CCHS makes us arrive at school by 8am, forcing us wake up extremely early; this causes us to lose a great amount of sleep. With lack of sleep, students tend to be less focused and sleepy during class. We are kept at school from 8am to 3pm, and that takes away opportunities to be involved in various activities, such as work.
The lockers that the school provides us to store our supplies in. It is unjust that freshmen and sophomores receive bottom lockers while juniors and seniors receive the top ones. CCHS must make equal lockers for everyone,such as bigger and longer lockers, so that no one has either top or bottom. There must be equality for everyone, despite the grade level.
The punishments that the students suffer. Students should not be getting punishments for being late or not turning an assignment in on time. For example, in Mr. Long’s class, students receive a Saturday school for having too many tardies. Also, talking too much in class can result in getting a detention. Instead of punishing us for what we do wrong, we should be rewarded for the positive things we do. That would motivate all students to succeed without needing to penalize
