CHC Observation- A Reflective Note Ahmed Nadeem – 507125 The Aga Khan University Medical College is definitely, what some would call it, a unique institution- unique in the sense that it helps its students get a more practical approach to learning. It values and preaches a learning process that is not limited to mere large class formats or presentations per say, but to a holistic system where ‘what you learn’ is linked to ‘how to apply what you have learned’ from the very inception of an individual’s medical learning. And I asked myself how could the doctor be calm in such an atmosphere. How could he practice? Yet as I entered Dr Hafeez’s office, I felt different. As if the entire scenario had changed. I felt as if I had entered into an entire new realm- everything looked so professional and in place- isolated from the outside world It was all closed and the room was meant to honor the privacy of any individual inside. As quite often taught to us, the office was build in such a way as to provide comfort and a sense of security to the patient. The doctor arrived, immaculately and professionally dressed, with a patients file in his hand and the patient followed. The doctor greeted the patient, shook his hand and gestured him to a seat. He politely asked the patients name in Urdu and took consent to begin the consultation. What was important it was the fact that he took the patients consent to allow me to remain in the premise as well. He explained that I was a medical student and was learning from this experience. The patient agreed and I made ground. I really wanted to be there and heaved a sigh of relief. Everything was just as what we had been taught- the MGC (Meet, Greet, Consent) and the doctor gave a perfect show of
