Part 1: The novel Candide by Voltaire was published in 1759 in France. Voltaire was a new age enlightenment novelist, philosopher and historian. Voltaire whose real name is actually François-Marie Arouet used his wit in this novel to create a satire. He didn’t use this real name because he at this time ridiculed the Catholic Church and didn’t want to be found guilty and then killed for heresy. This author wrote Candide in three days and yet it’s thought of as the most influential novel of all time.

Nothing about it is exactly delightful there is death and destruction both physically and emotionally. Candide’s journey cannot be described as fun it’s a struggle to find humanity to understand good and evil. It’s a struggle for survival. It is although chock full of challenges that Candide has to overcome and I do then agree with Corbett for that reason.
Part 5:
I would recommend this novel but only to those interested in history and with the understanding of historical societal systems without this knowledge this novel would be immensely confusing. Although to those with a liking for history this novel is wondrous and enlightening. It makes you think differently. But you have to adjust your thought process because this was made in 18th century France there is a fair amount of derogatory phrases that in modern times are not perceived as politically correct and can come across as offensive. But even so I believe this is a brilliant novel that keeps you on edge the entire time. It is eye opening and although lacks detail and developed characters it makes up for in its ability to transport you to eighteenth century
