This passion indorsed me to attain my associate degrees in Law Enforcement and Paralegal Studies. Also, with the experience of being a peer counselor at high school and at church, as well as the obtaining of my associate degree in Psychology, which taught on counseling gave an additional drive to determine what the career field to help persons as a Counselor. Successively, with the necessary research made and knowledge obtained I have already spoken to teachers and advisors in regards to obtaining a bachelor degree in both Social Work and Criminal Justice and what are the necessary qualifications to meet the requirement. These courses range from interviewing interrogating and report writing, communication skills, sociology, psychology, social welfare, professional development seminar, etc. just to name a few.
Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with areas of study in Psychology and Criminal Justice. A Bachelor’s degree in these areas of study, can open the doors to many different career paths ranging from human services to research to counseling. Personally, I would like to seek a career that will allow me to have an impact on other people’s lives. For this reason, I choose to explore the career of a Foster Care Placement Specialist. To better understand the, job responsibilities, employment requirements and pros and cons of this career I decided to seek counsel from my friend, Rachel Zimmerman, a Family Services Specialist with the Virginia Department of Social Services.
Section 1: Professional Development Plan For most of my life I have been motivated to help people so when I made the decision to continue my education at Walden University, I knew that I was ready for the journey. I am currently seeking a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I am expected to graduate in the winter of 2025. This paper was written on June 30th, 2023, with the intent of further understanding my motivations for seeking this degree as well as visualizing the type of counselor I want to be in the future. The field of human services is a very diverse field. There are many different career options for those looking to enter into the field. They can have careers as therapists, case managers, probation officers, and educational assistants to name a few. Human service workers can work with children, families, the elderly, veterans, the homeless, poor, school systems, and those that are mentally ill or have problems with substance abuse. Those pursuing a career in the field of human service workers generally all share a common interest of wanting to help others and those in need.
Therapists and counselors are people who are skilled in working with people who have mental, personal, and relationship issues. Working in the social service field is also an option. Two years later, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. I applied for a Family Service worker position at an elementary school and got an interview. When I was in the Interview, one of the questions the interviewers asked was Why do you want to practice social work, and why do you want to work with children. I told them of my family’s past experience with foster care, and about this awesome social service worker.

Revealing that these programs mean way more to the student than academic success. Communication is huge and if one is unable to collaborate properly amongst his and or her peers then one is not fit for the workplace. I want to know if I would like to go down the social work path like you or should I choose to find a program for counseling and become a LPC. I think I am intimidated by the process because I graduated so long ago and it looks weird. I could have my masters and licensed by now if I went to grad school after graduating but instead I chose to sit out and sitting out became 3 years without a clue to what I want to do
