Augusto Varella Rossi Carlos Drummond de Andrade is for many considered a enormous poet in the history of Brazil. His poem ' 'Canção Amiga" ("Friendly Song"), was printed on the 50 cruzados bill. Mario Quintana was a Brazilian writer and translator. He is known as the poet of "simple things" and the characteristics in most of his poems are irony, profundity and technical perfection. The poems we will analyze in this essay is "In the Middle of The Road" by Carlos Drummond de Andrade and "The Time" by Mario Quintana. One of the most famous poems of Carlos Drummond De Andrade is "In the Middle of The Road". The title 's meaning is that throughout life we find obstacles. It was published in 1928 and one of the characteristics of this poem is the repetitive stylistics. This repetition does not get our attention, although what attracts our interest is the variation. It is a fact that the people that read the poem just remind of the repetition and do not recognize the other verses that varied such as "Never should I forget this event / in the life of my fatigued retinas" (5-6). For thwarting our expectation, we can realize that this poem is not stew since Andrade uses repetition in almost every line of the poem.
