The yearly repetition of different sizes in growth rings are very useful in ecological studies through dendrochronology. Since the size of vessel elements and tracheid are dependent on air temperature and water, dendrochronology professionals, can determine past droughts, floods, and intense heat or cold, by studying different growths and width of rings. Vessel elements and tracheid have different lengths between angiosperms and gymnosperms. The length of individual cells do not make that much of a difference, a tree’s ability to conduct water. The length of these cells are mostly important and needed for the paper industry. The length of these cells corresponded to the fiber length of pulp that is turned into paper, and influences the quality of paper being made. Short fibers make fine grade paper and long fibers make coarser paper. Short fibers make fine grade paper and long fibers make coarser paper. Some wood can be made very quickly and cheaply, making it an easily renewable resource. Because wood is cheap, abundant, and renewable. It is used as fuel and different multiple ways of building new buildings and other types of household items and what not. Wood is divided into hard wood and soft wood. Around one-third of the United States timber are hardwoods and the other two-thirds being takin out were soft woods. Hardwood is very dense and durable, but is quite more expensive than soft wood and grows at a much slower rate. Hard woods are of course used for mainly support and strength and heavy testing jobs. Soft woods are used for smaller projects that do not require as much strength. Soft woods are also used for the production of paper and are much more flexible than hard woods. These woods grow relatively quicker than hard woods and are cheaper and are much easily
