#1 WHO: Victim, Carroll Bonnet; Suspect, Jerry Watson WHAT: 61 yr old Carroll Bonnet was stabbed to death in his apartment during a burglary WHEN: October 17, 1978 WHERE: Omaha, Nebraska WHY: Burglary gone wrong HOW: Fingerprints and palm prints from victim’s bathroom as well as the latent prints from the victim’s stolen vehicle were lifted for evidence. Then 30 yrs later, Omaha police department used IAFIS to match the prints. Which was later used to convict Jerry Watson, and in 2011, he was sentenced to life in prison. #2 WHO: Victim, Diane Maxwell Jackson; Suspect, James Ray Davis WHAT: Diane arrived at her shift as a Southwestern Bell telephone operator. After parking her car, she was forced into a nearby shack by an unknown individual and brutally raped, strangled, and stabbed to death. …show more content…
Then in 2003, David Maxwell, Diane’s brother, reopened the case and scanned the prints in IAFIS as well as personally matching the prints which was confirmed to be James Ray Davis. #3 WHO: Victim, James “RIchard” Layne; Suspect, Samuel Reeves WHAT: Layne himself hadn’t checked in to the motel, so he went to the motel to see who had checked into his room. Then the body of Layne was found along with very little usable evidence other than a few partial prints on beer cans were found in the motel room. WHEN: February 20, 1989 WHERE: Chattanooga, TN WHY: Theft went wrong HOW: The fingerprints on the beer cans helped lead the investigators to Reeves and when they picked him up, he confessed.
