On January 13, 1999, 18 year old Hae Min Lee, disappeared. About a month later, February 9, Hae was found dead by means of strangulation. Hae’s ex boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was put in prison for her murder. I believe Adnan was wrongly prosecuted, and that the real murderer is Jay Wilds. When interrogated, Jay’s story was not consistent and a lot of evidence he claimed as true was just flat out wrong.
The law review article I chose was written by a Law Professor regarding police claims on self-defense. The author talks about Zimmerman’s murder trial and how the judge refused to allow prosecution to argue that the neighborhood watch volunteer racially profiled Martin. Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder for shooting a 17-year-old, Trayvon Martin. The state of Florida filed an affidavit of probable cause stating that Zimmerman profiled and confronted Martin and shot him to death when Martin didn’t commit any crimes. Zimmerman claims he shot Martin in self-defense.
Casey Anthony and the Missing Girl Caylee. Casey Anthony killed her daughter Caylee, she later then used multiple lies to cover it up. December 11th 2008, a body was found little under half a mile away from the Anthony residence. Later found out the body was confirmed to be Caylee. Several months before this, Casey anthony did not report Caylee Anthony until 31 days after she was actually missing.
On 2nd August 1994, 13 year old American boy Eric Smith was charged with the murder of a 4 year old boy called Derrick Robbie in Savona. Derrick Robbie was walking alone to a summer camp just down the road from where he lived, when Smith saw him and lured him off the path and into a small patch of woods on the way to the camp (Leung, 2004). It was there where Smith went on to strangle Derrick Robbie and unearthed some rocks nearby which he used to beat him to death. After this Smith sodomised the 4 year old with a stick he’d found and left him there to be found (Staas, 2014). A couple of days after the body was found by the police Smith went to the police station to see if he could help with the crime, Smith denied seeing Derrick Robbie at
Natalee Ann Holloway was an American teenager who went missing on May 30, 2005. She had recently graduated high school, and was on a graduation trip to Aruba in the Caribbean. The last person to be seen with Natalee was Joran Van der Sloot, a dutch already convicted of killing Stephany Flores' Ramirez years earlier, and many leads have led Aruban police to believe that he killed Holloway. However, the details aren't concrete. Even though no arrests have been made connected to the kidnapping or murder of Natalee Holloway, detailed evidence proves that Joran van der Sloot killed Holloway and disposed of her body to cover up the crime.
Hello ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the time has come to make a decision. Here is what we know. On the day of February 6, 2012, Trayvon Martin was walking to his father’s house after getting a drink and skittles from a local gas station. On his way home he was spotted by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch person, who noticed Trayvon and believed he looked suspicious.
Her body was placed in an empty lot within the area of Los Angeles, California. The Black Dahlia murder has some questionable evidence concerning the victim’s whereabouts/the crime scene, the suspects that were ruled as innocent, and the most prominent suspects, Leslie Dillon and George Hodel. The Black
After Holloway didn't arrive at her hotel the next morning, police began an island-wide search for the teen. A week later after collecting their initial evidence, police arrested Joran, Deepak and Satish as suspects in Holloway's disappearance. The boys' testimonies initially coincided, saying that they all went to the beach with Holloway and then dropped her back off at her hotel (Biography). This story soon dissolved, however, when video surveillance tape of the hotel revealed that the Kalpoe brothers' car never dropped Holloway back home. Armed with a new confession, Deepak and Satish told investigators that they left van der Sloot and Holloway at a fisherman's hut on a nearby beach, at Holloway's insistence.
Natalee Holloway was the age 18 on a school graduation field trip with her class, the same day she was murdered. She had met a guy that night she arrived was named Van Der Sloot. He was the main cause of Natlee Holloway’s death. If we have evidence that she was getting chased by a man in a construction site, and thought she was found dead later that week under a Marriot basement(all a lie), we know that Van Der Sloot was the killer of Natalee Holloway because of the so many lies that have been told. Van Der Sloot got in trouble for lying multiple of times about how she died.
On June 5, Aruban police detained Nick John and Abraham Jones, former security guards from the nearby Allegro Hotel which was then closed for renovation, on suspicion of murder and kidnapping. Reports indicate that the two former guards were known for cruising hotels to pick up women, and at least one of them had a prior incident with law enforcement. John and Jones were released on June 13 without being charged. (Disappearance of Natalee Holloway, 2015) On June 9, 2005, Van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering Holloway.
1- Assassination of JonBenét Ramsey The murder of JonBenét Ramsey shocked the entire world and became one of the most famous unsolved murder cases in US history. The investigation of this complex and mysterious crime remains one of the most difficult challenges for law enforcement authorities. The circumstances surrounding JonBenét's death, including the lack of signs of a break-in and the presence of duct tape over the victim's mouth, make the case all the more mysterious. The murder of JonBenét Ramsey is also notable for the fact that several theories and speculations have been raised over the years.
Black Dahlia Murder In 1947 the tragic loss of Elizabeth Short shocked many people all over the world. This wasn’t your typical murder, this murder had to have been planned out and thought about for a while before its happening. The “Black Dahlia Murder” is the biggest unsolved case in Los Angeles and is still an undergoing investigation. I have reason to believe that Dr. Gorge Hodel is the murderer behind the brutality of Elizabeth Short’s body.
Ambrose Bierce’s “The Boarded Window” uses rhetorical devices such as irony and foreshadowing to develop the themes of death and failure in the story, advertently relating the narrative to events from his past. “The Boarded Window” follows the tale told by an unnamed narrator about the mysterious character of Murlock, a man in his 50’s who was recently found dead in his cabin in the woods just outside of Cincinnati; in his home they find a mysteriously boarded window. In a brief summary, the narrator explains that the window was boarded up soon after a young Murlock’s wife died, it’s revealed that when she fell ill, his lack of medical knowledge and recurring failure while treating her only prolonged her suffering. “The Boarded Window” has
Three murder case studies will be presented and compare here: Marian Bates, Martha Moxley, and Elizabeth Short. Marian Bates was a 64 year old Nottingham Jeweler who was murdered in front of her husband, Victor Bates, and children. Peter Williams, a 19 year old drug addict was released early from prison and was supposedly under “intense supervision”. Williams removed his tag and violated his curfew. He and an unidentified gunman who is still at large, raided a jewelry store on September 30th 2003.
In the case of Mary Barnett, I agree with the courts decision to find her guilty of second degree murder and manslaughter. This is largely based on my analysis of the witnesses presented during the trial and the demeanor and actions of the defendant. Having an associates degree in psychology helped me formulate decisions about the role of each character and what part they were to play during the course of the trial. I utilized the teaching from the text book as well as the concepts from my social psychology class which required me to people watch and analyze the surroundings, body language, and actions of others.
