Should an innocent man be convicted of murder? Adnan was wrongfully convicted of this murder in 2000 and has spent 17 years in prison as an innocent man. On February 09, 1999, several weeks after Hae (Adnan’s ex-girlfriend) went missing (on January 13, 1999), she was found in Leakin park. She was a victim of murder by manual strangulation. On February 28, 1999, Adnan was arrested by the Baltimore City detectives; resulting in the case of Adnan Syed v.s. The State of Maryland. This case is highlighted by the podcast Serial, hosted by Sarah Koenig. Adnan is innocent because there is not enough physical and reliable witness evidence linking Adnan to the murder of Hae. One former partner of Cristina’s claimed, “she had been slipping for the past five years before her death” (Koenig, The Best Defense is a Good Defense). To explain this, since 1996, Christina slowly grew sick, and couldn’t do her job as well. In Adnan’s Case, “she would use a half speed pacing and the sing-songy aggression, she was without a clear outline, and her many punches never appeared to land. In other words, Christina studied over Adnan’s case but failed to provide clear reasons and counterclaims (against the state), which cost her the case. Another crucial piece of evidence against Cristina as a lawyer is her taking unreasonable amounts of money from her clients. “Cristina asked for $50,000 to represent Adnan, but doubled the cost by the end of the second trial. Additionally, she claimed Adnan’s parents needed to bring $10,000 in cash to the courthouse for a jury expert” (Koenig, The Best Defense is a Good Defense). To explain this, this is strange because she only needed $50K to represent him but wanted $100K. Additionally, lawyers use checks, and not cash as proof the money goes towards the trial. Lastly, “Cristina’s career collapsed in spring of 2001, she was taking her clients money and not doing what she promised to do and got caught by the state. Additionally, The state fund that compensates people when their lawyers misuse their money paid out a total of $282,328 on twenty-eight claims against Christina” (Koenig, The Best Defense is a Good Defense). This means not only was she taking unjust amounts of money from Adnan’s family but a total of over 280 thousand dollars from 28 cases. Adnan had an unfair trial because
