The study that was being published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, showed that only 3% of American adults got a perfect score on what the authors say are the four basic criteria for healthy living. Just 13.8% met three of the criteria; 34.2% met only two criteria. Women scored slightly better than men. The very main problem is in our penchant for junk food that we can see in our daily lives. It is something that we must implement, and must commit every single day for us to do it. It is indeed not easy, but once again, living a healthy life is a good invest for the long run. There are a lot of benefits that we can achieve through living a healthy life. First, healthy life style helps you to improve your mood. It is because by living a healthy life, you will eat organic foods and doing physical activities that do not only will make you look good, but also feel good and increases your self-esteem. Second, healthy life style can also combats diseases. Diet plays a very huge role in this, because by living a healthy life you will know what is in the food that you eat every single day; which of course will help you invest in health. Third, healthy life style will boost your energy. We all already know how unhealthy foods will affect our body. When we eat organic foods, whole grains, low-dairy products, vegetables and fruits, our body will have the power to manage our energy level because everything is in balance. We need to track our calorie intake, by making a food diary. For example, you can make a food diary for an entire week, so you can manage your time to prepare some food that takes a long time to prepare, buy the groceries, etc. Not only we eat cleaner, we also decrease our expenses. Buying foods in restaurants and cafes will of course make our expenses very high because we of all the taxes and sometimes the fact that foods in restaurants are overpriced. There are a lot of recommendations in managing your diet. First, you will need to base your food on starchy foods. Whole grains and potatoes with skin have more fiber, vitamins and minerals. Also, starchy foods contain fewer than half the calories of fats per gram. Second, eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Fruits are the source of organic glucose, so you can eat a lot of fruits if you’re craving for sweets and desserts. Vegetables contain a lot of water and minerals, especially boiled ones. Third, eat more fish, especially the oily ones. Oily fishes are one of the only natural food sources of vitamin D, which are very important for bone health. Oily fishes include salmon, fresh tuna, sardines, mackerel and trout.
