Jackie robinson made a big difference in baseball history. He was the first african americn to play baseball and he broke the color barrier in 1947 allowing african americans to play Major League Baseball. Jackie Roninson had a big role in Maajor League baseball and made a big change over the years for those who played baseball. As jackei robinson continued growing up and playing baseball, the Brooklyn Dodgers captured six national league pennants with him being rookie of the year. Jackie Robinson was born on January 31st, 1919, in Cairo GA, but grew up in Pasadena California.
Although an outcome may seem imminent, one should always be prepared for what may come next. “Casey at the Bat,” a captivating poem detailing the events of an unfortunate baseball game for the citizens of Mudville. The poem was written in 1888 by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, an American writer, and has widely been recognized for being the most influential and famous baseball poem of all time. The poem begins with Mudville being in a slump within a baseball game, dreading the impending outcome and loss that they have to suffer. A trait simply described as the overestimation of oneself can be a quintessential element in understanding a character’s downfall. People such as Chris McCandless, Oedipus and Tiger Woods are key examples when trying to relate, understand, and analyze what we know today as “Hubris”. The connections that can be made between each of these characters describe the very nature of how a hero will ultimately meet their bane as a result of being blinded by their own flaws. The author may use humor in his poem to lighten the mood or make a happier setting for the reader who may be a younger child. An example of humor in Casey at the Bat is "From the benches, black from people, there went up a muffled roar, like the beating of the storm waves on a stern distant shore."

Even though companies today are promoting diversity and the transracial ideal by endorsing biracial athletes like Derek Jeter, racial undertones can be felt through the media coverage and advertisements we see every day. Therefore, the transracial ideal embodied by Derek Jeter is not attainable because race has become a defining characteristic through media exploitation and racial framing of minorities, as shown by Barry Bonds and the portrayal of Michael Vick and Ben Roethlisberger cases. Derek Jeter is a biracial baseball player for the New York Yankees.

We have all been the “David” in a situation before, maybe not to that extent, but we have. When you are put into a scenario where you are the underdog you don’t expect to come out like David, at least I don’t. Gladwell’s argument gives false hope to those who read it. I have been the underdog in numerous situations and nine times out of ten I come out on top, but that one time that I don’t is the one piece that is missing from Gladwell’s book.

The causes of night terrors are not well understood, but as a form of dream they are thought to be only a bare “reflection of person’s unconsciousness” (Schacter). Night terrors provide our awareness a possibility to bring back its stability by balancing the subconscious affects in our lives and neutralizing the stress accumulated during the normal working day. The physical explanation to the strange events of night terrors lies in the fact that before a person deeply falls asleep his/her brain waves begin regular alpha rhythms, indicating a relaxed state. While rhythms are being synchronized the inevitable wavelengths mismatches occur- they are the source for the brain to create phantasmagoric and also terrifying pictures (Barclay). There is a psychological connection of a person’s mental state to the kind of night dreams he/she has.
