The Novel “ the Catcher in the Rye” takes place mainly in new york around the early fifties. The old new york portrayed in this novel feels a lot less crowded than it is now. Back then New york seemed dingy and more sketchy in some parts than it would be nowadays. Holden, the main character grew up in New York, along with his siblings until Holden moved away to attend school, but he still returns to spend time with his family and also when he gets kicked out. Holden experiences the shadier side of New York a couple times throughout the novel.
