Every citizen has to have sufficient supply for their basic needs. However, because of the lack of job opportunities, many Filipino citizens are not able to support their daily needs and is currently experiencing poverty. There are many Filipino Citizens who do not have enough money to meet their basic needs. To show how severe poverty really is in the Philippines, the researcher starts with how many Filipino citizens were affect by poverty, then explains what are the causes or factors of poverty, last he discusses how poverty is affecting Filipino citizens every day and what should the government do. The major causes of poverty in the Philippines are corruption, lack of education, fear, crab mentality, and OFW thinking. According to Charles B. Rangle that we need quality education to prevent or stop ignorance and poverty. The poor are deprived from their right to learn and go to school, which makes them ignorant. The Philippines need quality education, which concentrates not only on the knowledge, but also in talents and moral values. On the other hand, the government are not doing anything, they are more on politics, corruption, and their promises are all talks (Pedro Alagano Sr., N/A). “Actions speak louder than words” as the saying goes, there were no actions from the government in facing the problem of poverty. Almost all of the platforms of the politicians are just mere talks, no action is being shown, and the promises they made ends up being forgotten, which causes poverty here in the Philippines.
