Oftentimes, when the topic of the American Revolution is brought up, taxation without representation is automatically deemed the cause. This common thought, however, is incorrect as taxation without representation did not top the list of grievances. The specific cause of the American Revolution cannot be attributed to one event alone, but multiple afflictions including the French and Indian War, the Stamp Act, the Boston Massacre, and the Boston Tea Party. To begin, the French and Indian War was a major conflict that set in motion what would eventually become the Revolutionary War. This was a war between Great Britain and France that ultimately resulted in Great Britain arising victorious and France defeated. There was, however, a problem that resulted with the great victory; debt. The Stamp Act met resistance in America and by the time it was repealed by the Parliament, there was already uprising in America and Britain. Another event that led to the Revolutionary War was the Boston Massacre. Though only five people were killed, the very thought of British soldiers firing on unarmed civilians caused a major uprising. It was not clear which side fired first, however, when the shot was heard, it was a sign to the soldiers to begin firing which ultimately resulted in the five deaths. The publishing of this event in the newspapers caused a widespread anger and fear amongst the colonists and fueled their rage towards the British and ultimately played a role as another stepping stone towards the
