Causes Of Failure In The Great Gatsby

Many people love to try to relive their failed dreams; they almost seem as if they can not move on in life. They are almost stuck in what was happening to them in their earlier life. In The Great Gatsby there is a lot to learn about the characters and their failed dreams. A few of them have moved on from them, but Gatsby himself has not. In the The Great Gatsby, the story there are many secrets about him and who he truly was in his past life. It is almost hard for him to tell the truth because he is stuck living in this dream with a certain woman. Gatsby fails because he lives in the past; he is obsessed with Daisy, causes other people stress, and Fitzgerald's message about failure is that it is bad to live in the past. One of Gatbsys failed

Not just to the person but everyone around them. Daisy decided to drive back instead of Gatsby to “calm” her nerves. Gatsby lets her and she ends up hitting Myrtle. Her husband's mistress, she keeps driving but starts crying and freaking out. Gatsby agrees that he will take the blame. They go back to Daisy and Toms house and Gatbsy waits for her. Gatsby does not seem to care about anything but Daisy, not even the fact that they killed someone. They do not know that who they killed was Tom's mistress, which hurts Tom when he finds out. Not only is Tom upset but so is Myrtle's husband, on the hunt trying to find who killed his wife. Tom knows that Gatsby and Daisy had the car, Tom tells Gatsby. The next day it seems to all unfold. Nick goes to see Gatsby and he sees him dead in the pool. In shock he and the gardener pull him out and come across Myrtle’s husband dead as well. Myrtle's husband (Wilson) has killed Gatbsy for the death of his wife and then himself. Overall it is not just one sad car accident, but now three people are dead. Not only did Gatsby try to fix his failed dream from the past end badly for him but everyone around him.Nick states, “After Gatsby's death the East was haunted for me like that, distorted beyond my eyes power of correction.” Nick is affected overall, Myrtle and her husband, Daisy and Tom, and Gatsby himself. From everyone leaving and how all the drama went through just ended up with everyone being unhappy. With Gatbsys funeral no one even goes, just ends up being Nick and two other people.
