Homelessness is usually a result of several of complicated issues. First, domestic and family violence is considered to be the most common reason why people become homeless. Domestic and family violence is that one person uses abuse and/or violence to control his/her spouse or other family members through fear (Domestic Violence Prevention Centre, 2016). Therefore, victims prefer to stay outside all day in order to avoid being at home which is considered as nightmare. Second, financial difficulty is another major cause for homelessness.
Is it the stresses of war and inadequate job training? In addition, could it be untreated PTSD that keeps veterans from being productive once back in civilian life, thus causing the risk of homelessness? PTSD is one of the leading problems leading to homelessness among our veterans. As a veteran, myself, I understand the day to day struggles to come to grips with some things that were experienced as a soldier. For example, seeing fellow soldiers shot or killed, or the people you’re there to help turn on you, it’s a living nightmare.
Homeless veterans need more help After all the things that homeless veterans have done for this country, they need more help. Many times, veterans will be seriously injured while in service. Whether it’s a physical or mental injury, they are serious.
Also people leaving prison or mental health institutions with nowhere to go to on their release/discharge can end up homeless. Services need to ensure that when people are leaving institutional care that they have a place to go. Relationship Causes: This can include an abusive relationship or family breakdown. Either way, one or more people may need to leave the home and may have nowhere to go. Death in a family can also be a cause of homelessness as the person may not be able to afford accommodation on one income.
According to National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV), the likely persistence of this problem is evident on considering that the homeless veterans are identified to be younger on average in comparison to the entire veteran population. Among these, 9 percent is made up of those aged between 18 and 30, while 41 percent are in the 31-50 years bracket. Nevertheless, veterans in the 18-30 age bracket make up only 5 percent while those aged 31 to 50 make less than 23 percent. Notably, the exact figure of the homeless veterans may be impossible to establish considering the difficulty posed by the transient nature of such populations. However, estimates by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development indicate that there are 49,933 homeless veterans at any given night.
After most veterans, men or women, get discharged, they end up homeless because they don't get treated with the utmost respect they deserve. According to Green Doors, an organization that works to "prevent and help end homelessness," minorities such as African Americans and Hispanics are most likely to become homeless ("Veterans Homeless Facts"). If veterans come from poor communities, it is harder for them to go back to normal or re-enter the military because they do not get the support they need. They will struggle to find jobs or lose them and become unemployed and homeless because they do not have a stable job. Many things cause veterans to become homeless, like a lack of support and isolation after they get discharged.

Homelessness is random but also expected. Well rounded people who are a working and trying their best to be a part of society believe that because people don't work hard enough and are lazy and up jobless and homeless. But this is not always the case. Yes some people who are not financially stable lose their jobs or lose their car can lose their home as well but they can recover from that. For some special cases people go through a more difficult time and don't take care of their mental state and because of this they can lose it all including their family.
The goals to bring awareness to the citizens of the US that veterans homelessness is a growing social problem in our society and that they need more assistants. Not only does this problem affect our veterans physically emotionally and mentally, it also affects how america 's youth perceives the government due to their neglect of our homeless vertarans.
Homelessness in this country is unfortunately becoming a bigger issue every day. To me, it seems that ever since the economy went down more and more people are losing their homes and are unable to pay their bills, forcing them on to the streets and into shelters. Poverty is easily associated with homeless people and these people who are affected by this literally only have what is on their backs. I also believe that a strong epidemic of drug use fuels homelessness.
The majority of them did not get the right education or were not able to get a decent job. Nowadays people can’t even get through life earning minimum wage. Luckily for us, in New York, minimum wage increased to $9 but everything else went up in price too. According to Coalition for the Homeless (n.d.), “In November 2015, there were 59,929 homeless people, including 14,476 homeless families with 23,912 homeless children, sleeping each night in the New York City municipal shelter system. Families comprise nearly four-fifths of the homeless shelter population”.
Unfortunately, homelessness is still a major issue in many American cities. The issues that lead to this circumstance could include anything from substance abuse, disabilities or mental illness.
