World War 1
World War I, also known as the “First Modern War”, due to the usage of modern technology in this war, started on 28th July 1914 and ceased on 11th November 1918. The major reason of the outbreak of World War I was the nationalism in the nations, which shared common cultures, traditions and languages and they began to think they were better or rather superior than the rest of the nation of the world.
The World War I was one of the most transformative events of the twentieth century. It was responsible for the death of great number of people in the world. The aggression that led to the outbreak of war was the assassination of the heir of the throne of Austro Hungarian Empire, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife in the mid-1914. During the Victorian era, the British took over most of the Europe. The grandsons and granddaughters of Queen Victoria ruled a number of European territories. In this era Europe made much progress that engendered jealousy among the political face of the world and also between the cousins themselves, due to the progress and gain in power of Europe. With the passage of time, nationalism, imperialism and militarism became the most powerful driving force of World War I. Nationalism is the pride as nation. Due to nationalism Germany and Austria-Hungarians were brought together.
The second major reason was imperialism, which is the extension of territories or colonies for the sake of economy or politics. England, France, Spain and Portugal were the European powers that were extending their territories including America, Australia and Asia. The content created by the Committee of Public Information was targeted at the ethnically diverse American culture to justify their move to officially enter the World War I. The images and content depicted in the advertisements, pamphlets, stamps, cartoons and short movies was to portray the Germans are monsters with the aim to destroy the Americans. The purpose of this propaganda was to mislead the masses of America into accepting the government’s decision to get involved in World War I. Targeting the people of America in believing that Germans are their enemies they made them overlook the fact as to America should involve in the World War I or not. The result of this propaganda was that people believed the Germans are their fierce enemy and they actually busied themselves in volunteering to bring the bad intentions of this enemy
