The technological advancements of the last century have reshaped our society by continuously trying to improve different aspects of daily life. Unfortunately many of these advances have had unforeseen negative consequences. The modernization of the music industry has always intended to boost revenue by making music easier to access for the consumer and the invention of the World Wide Web provided a platform that made music more accessible than ever before. Another reason people to not take music piracy seriously is because they assume that artists can afford to lose the money. While it may be true that many wealthy music artists can afford a significant decrease in their income, music piracy affects every single person whose job is involved in the production and distribution of a piece music. In an age when the majority of people listen to music via the internet, online music piracy poses a threat to the industry that will eventually slow down global music production if it is not properly regulated.
