Rusty Crowder Period 2 Quarter 2 Commentary #1 The Long Walk by Stephen King Pages 1-25 (Chapter 1) The story starts off with the main character, Raymond Davis Garraty. He is a 16-year-old boy from Maine. The only one competing from Maine, where the long walk takes place, and is supported by big crowds of people.
Humans are unique creations, each one behaves differently. Humans have the propensity to act inhumanely. "Why We Crave Horror Movies," by Stephen King explores the psychology of the human psyche and tries to explain why people are drawn to the horror subgenre. King begins to connect himself to the reader to establish a relationship of understanding the appeal of horror films. Beyond that, he uses emotional appeals as he utilizes bold, questionable statements to engross the reader.
Stephen King's Why We Crave Horror Movies explains why he thinks people watch so many horror movies. According to him, everyone is all a little crazy in their own way. There is just a variety of definitions of crazy. There is also a difference between deranged and having a guilty pleasure.
When Thomas King says, “The truth about stories is, that’s all we are,” I believe he is pointing out how powerful of a force stories are in our lives. We are told stories from our childhood, as a way to remember history or pass down traditions. He is trying to make the point that stories make up our history, our cultures and ourselves. A good example of this comes from Nealon and Searls Giroux’s book, “Subjectivity.” The book says there is the “self” which is our primary selves, untouched by cultural influences or the law.
The checkered past and symbolism of the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King’s novel ,The Shining, reflects the characters’ pasts and influences their actions in order to show the building as more of an antagonist (of sorts) than a setting. One example of support for the claim is when Jack Torrence is having a dream after discovering the blood and bits in the Presidential suite from a gang fight years prior, where he believes that he is killing an intruder of the hotel with a mallet, but as he threw the mallet down, “the face below him was not of the intruder but of Danny’s. It was the face of his son. Then the mallet crashed home, closing his eyes forever. Suddenly Jack awoke standing over Danny’s bed, his fists clenched tightly.”
Stephen King’s “The Running Man” is a very tough book to summarise. There are many things that happen throughout it, but due to the nature of the situation, in the end everything around Ben Richards gets destroyed, causing many things that may seem to be key events to have very little impact on the ending of the story. The basic story, removing all of these elements, is that a man named Ben Richards is living an impoverished life in some random town in the U.S., and signs up for a death game called The Running Man to make a whole bunch of money so he can get his daughter’s pneumonia treated. The whole idea of The Running Man is that a man goes on the run for 30 days from the authorities and a group of people called the hunters who are chasing
Reading and Writing are Important Stephen King's "Reading to Write" (72) give details about King's methods on becoming a better writer. To become a better writer, you must read a whole heap of books. There are so many other things you can read other than books like magazines, newspapers, labels on food, and papers. As a student in college, I understand Stephen King's methods. Reading and Writing will help me further my college education, and it will help me get to my goal.
Spooky things exist to feed off people’s emotions. People normally view these spooky things using a set rules or scale to judge these type of monsters. This is how people are aware of the situations that they are in. In order to escape this situation, people must think about it to themselves. Due to these situations, people of our community watch horror movies in order to simulate the idea of spooky things for the future.
Identifying Purpose of Argument There are many different kinds of arguments in the world. Some to persuade, some to inform or convince. Arguments can leave huge impacts on people’s lives depending on the seriousness. Most arguments are healthy though, and can end up causing important events to take place.
The family unit is typically seen as a group of people who are strong, and who stick by one another; however, when horrendous things happen to people inside of the family, what impact can that have on them? The well-known horror author, Stephen King, answers this question in many of his books. King is known for having the ability to inflict fear on his readers; making them afraid of things which lurk in the dark or under the bed. However, in his books Pet Sematary and IT, he doesn’t just attempt to scare his readers with a menacing ghost, but rather he hits closer to home by attack the beloved family unit by showing his readers the things that happen when a family is presented with unimaginable horrors. King tears the family to pieces when they cannot bear to deal with their problems, and forces either the adults or the children to deal with the supernatural beings that are the cause of the horror with the hopes of bringing the family back together.

The meaning of the story is to never underestimate a dream, because dreams might end up becoming a reality. The point that the author tries to make to the reader is to evaluate the elements of one 's dreams, and determine what our subconscience put there, and what is simply an element of our imagination. The theme of the story is mystery; inside the mystery we can find elements of sadness, unhappiness, and fear. There are two main characters in which one is Harvey, the husband who is telling the dream, and the other is Janet, the wife, who is listening to the dream.

The short story can be found in his horror story collection “Night Shift.” The main character in this story is a man called Lester Billings, a young man from Waterbury, Connecticut. He works at an industrial firm in New York, he is divorced and a father of three de-ceased children.
