Crocheting is a skill that has been passed down from generation to generation, and recently this writer had the opportunity to learn the craft from some very experienced elders. The intricacies of the craft are part passion and part knowledge. The lessons are timeless and universally applicable. And learning the wide variety of stitches is only part of the process. Commitment to success driven by the heart, as with all things, is the key ingredient.

She has also taken opportunities to pass along the craft and the love as well. Kids who admire the Frozen-themed hats or chunky scarves, women who want to remember that closeness they shared with their grandmothers as a child, or people just wanting to make cherished gifts. They often beg for the teaching. Having the opportunity to return the favor is welcomed with open arms.

Jessica had long sense forgotten how to crochet but was reunited in memory one evening after class sessions had ended. Sitting together in a quite hotel room she made a simple water bottle cozy. To her this item was a remembrance of a woman who poured love in to her young heart. And with one lesson, a reminder of the stitch work, she began to crochet more and more. She sent pictures of her work along for critique and to ask for advice when something tricky was presented. She was brave in her experiments and decided that mistakes should be removed no matter what amount of time had been invested.
