Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.” Tecumseh. A tragic hero is a special kind of hero with many flaws that makes a judgement that leads to their downfall. Cesar Chavez and John Proctor are both examples of tragic heroes. Despite his flaws, John Proctor shows more heroic qualities than Cesar Chavez. John Proctor tried to save innocent townspeople that were falsely accused of witchcraft when no one else would and was always honest and true to himself. In fact, telling the truth is what killed him. John Proctor was courageous enough to stand up for the innocent people that were being convicted of practicing witchcraft. He was the only person who dared to defy the court. They tried to get the court to believe that Abigail and the other girls were lying because they did not want to get in trouble.John also tried to stick up for his friends and their wives. An example of thisquality can be seen when john admits to committing adultery to the judge. He no longer had to pretend that he was always pure and did not have to feel guilty any longer. He risked his reputation to save his wife’s life. Another example of him being true to himself was when he chose to die rather than to live having everyone think that he practiced witchcraft. John did not want to lie and wanted to die having people know that he was never involved with witchcraft. He felt that his identity was more important than living.
