John Proctor is not a tragic hero in the beginning of the story because he was a bad person with his wife by lying to her about Abigail. But towards the end of the book he realizes the mistakes he has done and he wants to make a change about it. Wants to start to stop lying to himself and to others, then if it will not end well. John Proctor does not qualify as a tragic hero because he was breaking laws by having a affair with Abigail Williams behind his wife backs and when his wife Elizabeth confronts him about Abigail and him about having an affair John kies in front of her face. It goes throughout the whole story. Like an example of the beginning of the book John and Elizabeth were talking about Abigail wanting Elizabeth go to court. Which John told Elizabeth, that him and Abigail were alone and he had proof of the girls are saint now but he thinks is easily to prove they are fraud. He also knew the judges would not believe him and he knows they would believe his wife and he also said this wife never lies. But it was not the case because Elizabeth loves John so much she would lie for him even though deep inside she wanted to tell the whole truth. It made the situation worse between John and the judges that the only option he had was to lie and say Abigail is right and he would continue with him life. But he did not wanted to lie anymore and getting care about anything more he wanted to him
