Matthew Ellegood has shown tremendous growth over the past year. With support Matthew has increased his circle of friends within the community. Matthew through his volunteer activity at the Crossing Thrift Store was introduced to friends that encouraged him to attend the Tim Tebow Prom. Matthew attended the Prom this past February and was partnered with a buddy from the Crossing.

His name was a great inspiration to African Americans all over the U.S. during the movement. He was born on March 31, 1923 in a town that most of you are probably familiar with, Oakland, California.

Ronni Denham and Cierra Burks met in 1997 when Cierra was just two years old and Ronni was seven years old. They grew up together like sisters instead of cousins. During the proposal of the Equal Rights Amendment in 1972, Schlafly founded a group with more proactive approach called “Stop ERA” with one goal in mind, to defeat the ratification of ERA. After the success of the “Stop ERA” campaign, Phyllis Schlafly founded the eagle forum, a pro family group dedicated to “opposing all encroachments against American sovereignty through…feminist goals” (Schlafly). Travis Manion, a Marine Corps officer, was an assignment I was given to study before I went the Marine Corp’s Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy during the summer of my tenth grade year to have background knowledge on before we spoke to his family. Travis Manion gave his life to save his Marines in combat and on American soil, as told by his sister and family, who travels the country to tell his story, Travis Manion always lived by his motto: “If not me, then who…”. When asked by his loved ones who doesn’t he just let someone else go to combat instead of always volunteering to go Manion always told them, “If I don’t go, someone less qualified then me might have to go, or someone younger with less experience will have to go to take my place.

Ever since I arrived at the high school, there has been one man that was my teacher, coach and friend when I needed one.
