What is a chalazion?
Chalazion is a chronic non-infective inflammation of the glands of the eyelid. It is a lump in the upper or lower eyelid. Chalazion generally affects the meibomian glands in the tarsal plate, results as a painless and hard nodule of the eyelid. A chalazion is also known as a meibomian cyst, tarsal cyst, or conjunctival granuloma.
What causes a chalazion?
Actually, it is quite difficult to identify a cause for a chalazion. However, it is very common in individuals with blepharitis (eye inflammation) and rosacea. People affecting with rosacea (facial redness and swollen bumps under the skin) are at more risk to have certain eye problems like blepharitis and chalazia.
