1980´s Fashion “The spirit of the 1980´s, a decade of excess, power, speculation, and confrontation, was mirrored in fashion, which had splintered into many movements.” The turning point in fashion history was the 1980’s, fashion designers started making many styles and people were mixing and matching clothes every way they could. The economic crisis did not stop people from a buying everything they possibly could or stop designers from changing the fashion world. (need help with thesis statement) An importing role played in the changing of fashion was the media. MTV played a major part in impacting fashion. Countless amounts of videos played and of course everyone wanted to be just like all the famous stars they saw, from Madonna’s lace gloves to Snoop Dogg’s dreads. However, some of the time people didn’t even like the song, they were only intrigued by the outfits or hairstyles they saw. Another controlling factor on how the public dressed was a fitness craze, people were trying to improve their lives and they thought this was the way to achieve their goal. Also, they wanted to be rebellious against hippies so they started punk fashion. As stated before, MTV had a big influence on fashion, but that was not the only thing people were focused on. Women were trying to be equal in their position with men, people were trying to get fit to improve their lifestyle, but most of all people were just trying to make a difference. People were bored with the earlier periods and wanted something new and interesting which resulted in a fashion boom. Economy affected people since it was down, but as soon as the designers got working the economy increased and got better.
