In chapter 3 the author really keeps me inform on how to deal with others in internships and groups. Feedback and experience are the most important factor when being around other interns or clients. An intern cannot be close-minded when their field is working with individuals. In chapter three it talked about offering and receiving feedback. In order for a person to take in consideration other’s feeling, they have to communicate in a way a person feels comfortable and not fearful. According to Baird (2014), “Empathy and support are important also, because as you are going through the internship or other learning experiences, the rest of your life is going on as well” (p.26). In the text it describes journal and record keeping which I think is important. I need record keeping and journal entries for when I enter the workforce. Also, it made me aware of the different group sessions I can partake in to better my ability of communication with clients. During the practicum, I can apply the knowledge of chapter three by having a clear mind. Feedback is something I have encountered before, but chapter three explains more in detail why it is imperative that a person listens and understands the key points of their flaws.
The chapter was very interesting, especially when it talked about role playing. I think visuals are good aids to help a person learn. Also, having hands on devices such as video recorders and computers will help a person to become a mindful individual. Chapter three expounds a lot of interaction and for the intern to be prepared before entering the workforce.
