Discussion

The purpose of this chapter is to summarize the key findings of the collected data. The chapter will provide a summary of the findings presented in the results section. Next, will be a discussion on the conclusions that can be drawn from this study and how the findings compared with the literature that was reviewed in chapter two. The chapter will also provide implications for social work profession, as well discuss the limitations of the study. The chapter will conclude with providing suggestions for future research and recommendations on how to affectively use data, such as findings from this study to better help families.

The study also predicted that cousins would have higher levels of discontentment and there would be no difference in levels of life satisfaction no matter based on kinship. These hypotheses were supported in that participants reported lower levels of discontentment than life satisfaction, which had a significant difference. Participants who reported low levels of discontentment revealed dissatisfaction with their life or situation. It is also essential for social work professions to become knowledgeable of the criminal justice system, since imprisonment is increasing especially in the African American community. Social workers and the working profession should be able to provide evidence based practice with this population. Using evidence based practice along with the individual preferences can help improve the delivery of treatment and services (Evidence-based practice, 2010). Because families and children mental health are overlooked when faced with an incarcerated family member, social workers should be able to advocate through policymakers, legislation, state, and federal level. This can be done through educational classes on self-care, stress management and signs of declining mental health status.
