Mr. Jones, the owner of animal farm was so drunk that he forgot to close the popholes. He went to sleep and during this time, Old Major gathers the animals of the Manor Farm for a meeting in the big barn. He tells them a dream and he dreamt of Animal Farm with no humans. He tells them that their lives are miserable and short because of humans. After he tells them. Old Major teaches them a song called “Beast of England”. Three days later, he dies and three pigs Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer formulated the principles of Animalism. After a couple of days, Mr. Jones got drunk and forgot to feed the animals, and they were so hungry that they broke into the shed where all the food was. Snowball works at teaching the animals to read, and Napoleon takes a group of young puppies to educate them in the principles of Animalism. When Mr. Jones reappears to take back his farm, the animals defeat him again, which is called as the Battle of the Cowshed. In one of the Sunday meetings, Snowball makes an idea to build a windmill, but Napoleon doesn't like the plan. At the end, they decided to build it. In another Sunday meeting, Napoleon announces that there would be voluntary work on Sunday afternoon but whoever doesn’t work, their rations will be reduced by half. In February, after a storm, the animals find that the windmill fell and broke. Since it was the winter, food became very scarce and because they needed more help on the farm Napoleon says that he hired Mr. Whymper, a neighbor to help. Throughout the year, the animals work hard to rebuild the windmill. Four days later, Napoleon calls together all of the animals in the yard.
