At the start of chapter ten Jonas is riding with Fiona to their designated assignment training buildings. When Fiona enters the House of Old, Jonas sees Fiona's hair change similar to the way the apple had, along with all the people in the Auditorium. Jonas goes into the Annex building and is greeted by a woman who unlocks the door to the Receiver’s room. This makes Jonas even more unnerved because the community did not have locks. Jonas greets the old Receiver who tells Jonas to ask as many questions as he wants and he will answer them. He explains to Jonas that his job is to transmit all of his memories to Jonas.
