There are lots of characteristics that one must learn tactics for survival while on the front line during the war, these traits decide between life and death. In order to survive, Mueller, in All Quiet on the Western Front, Remarque portrays him as crude, unthoughtful, and reluctant. There are many words that describe the way he treats others, at times he does not consider what he is saying; he tends to speak before he thinks. He “is rather crude and tactless” due to how he spoke to others, he tends to step out of his place (Remarque 14).
