Not everyone reacts the same with guilt. Not everyone will act the same under guilt. Some act very nice but some can be aggressive and mean. There are all sorts of reactions and behaviors but in And Then There Were None, some characters were very calm which others freaked out. An example is that Vera Claythorne was super loud and obnoxious, but the other hand, Justice Wargrave was calm and quiet. If you were accused or framed for killing someone, how would you respond to that? In Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, she made each character have different reactions when the gramophone record was accusing each person of killing someone. She did that very well, by letting one of the main character to be always scared. Vera Claythorne was one of the people that broke down. An example is on page 49, Vera said, “Who was it? Who was it? Emily Brent is a woman that lives by her own special standards. The Bible is her guide to life. She was a very selfish person that only cared about herself. On page 49 the narrator said “only Mr. Justice Wargrave and Miss Brent seemed comparatively unmoved” That proves that she was not afraid or anxious at all. It said she was “unmoved” which means she is probably sitting in her chair knitting. It was almost like she did not even care about what was happening in the background. A part of the reason why she was not startled was because she only cared about herself instead of the important things. She depends on the Bible for most situations she is in. Her crime before she came to Solider Island was that she kicked out Beatrice Taylor when she heard she was pregnant, which caused her to drown herself. Beatrice Taylor was Emily Brent’s maid. That is why Miss Brent handled guilt well since she cared about no one else but
