In the novel A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J Gaines, Grant is a main character that has a lot of influence over the people in his community. Some might even consider him a hero. I believe that Grant is a hero because he helps Jefferson become a man, changes himself for the better, and wants to continue changing the community. Over the course of the novel, Grant helps Jefferson become the man that he needs to be in order to walk to his death with honor. When Grant first begrudgingly went to visit Jefferson in prison Jefferson was in a really low state.

Many stories in literature are not complete without an Antagonist. The Antagonist can be the embodiment of evil or just a roadblock for the main character to overcome. In the short story Sweat, written by Zora Neale Hurston, features an abusive husband, Sykes, as the Antagonist. Sykes dominates and abuses his hard-working wife, Delia. Whereas, Edgar Allen Poe, author of The Cask of Amontillado, uses an ambiguous relationship between Fortunato, a man full of ego and arrogance, who wrongs protagonist Montresor.

Maternity In Love Medicine In the novel “Love Medicine” by Louise Erdrich the mothers seem to defy history and control their families and their lives, the mothers seem to have most influence on the people around them. The mothers in “Love Medicine” are strong tough women, who suffer through seemingly unbearable pain throughout their lives which seems to influence them for the rest of their lives. One of the strongest characters in the novel “Love Medicine” is Marie Lazarre/Kashpaw who comes from a family of thieves, but heads her family with a no nonsense attitude that she has carried with her since early life.
Flannery O’Connor uses style, tone, and character to tell the story of a family and a band of misfits as they struggle with good over evil in the Southern Gothic short story ‘A Good Man is Hard to Find’ (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012). The style and tone of the characters are depicted in a way that makes it difficult to feel compassion or sympathy for them. The figurative language and style used by the author depicts characters with casual, informal, and extreme Southern stereotypes, diction and attitudes. The tone of the story is ironic in regard to both the characters and plot. O’Connor uses colorful language to describe the characters of the story in a way that allows the reader to vividly see the characters as cartoon like, grotesque, and exaggerated.
Standing there looking into my mother’s eyes filled with intent and worries, I was speechless. At this instant, I was able to budge a smile and move myself, despite being frozen from the news, to embrace my now widowed mother. Despite this tragic event, my dad had a dream, a vision that his two sons would achieve the American Dream filled with infinite opportunities that can be obtained with a higher education. To this day, I continually strive to live up to the American Dream my dad envisioned for me.
The Maturities of Romeo and Juliet It is a controversial topic whether youth is capable of handling a mature love. Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare by 1595, epitomizes this common topic. The main characters of the play are two teenagers who fall in love at the first sight, however, the hatred between the families of the two leads to their death in the end. In the adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet in 1996, Romeo and Juliet are portrayed more mature than in that of Baz Luhrmann in 1968.

Nevertheless, he is content with his life.
Ugly Love Ugly love is such a nice novel to read with somehow can happen in reality even if it’s a Fiction Novel. The book is a story more of the issues happening to our society such as love being hard to find and sex being easy to find. I admire your generosity and humbled to even be considered for this scholarship. I am thankful for people who give unselfishly to someone else’s aspirations and it is very heartwarming when someone does.
My family’s past experiences also teach me how to live my life the best way possible. For example, my parents did not finish college, so they were not able to obtain lucrative careers. Not finishing or not even going to college can take a toll on your life. If my parents finished college our life would have been more successful financially. Although my parents did not have the best money,
