1. My favorite character is Miss Walters because she provides a comedic relief within the novel. Although she is portrayed as a clueless and crazy old women, she is not afraid to agitate Hilly and by constantly reminding her of the pie incident. “I may not remember my name or what country I live in, but you and that pie is something I will never forget” (pg 391). 2. In the beginning of the book, Skeeter seems more excited about publishing a book because it will help her in her career as a writer, but the more she immerses herself into the book, she is exposed to the injustices that the help have to endure. Her intentions then changed to where she was dedicated to help the maid. However, for Abilene, it serves as a way to be connected to her son Treelore and as a way to tell her life story (pg 99). Ten years after 1960, the tension in Jackson was still very high. However, I would say that these three women will be happier than they were before. Although Abilene did lose Mae Mobley, she was able to become a writer for the newspaper which would allow her to have more freedom and not be responsible for taking care of someone else's child. Minny since she is free from her husband, she is able to be on her own for the first time.
