Silas Lapham, a character more inclined to embarrass himself with his lack of linguistic savvy than to impress his successful peers, is an example of a man with poor linguistic capital.

The Red Couch Tour has a strong influence on Canadians and conveys a clear message through these different stories. The main artifact is a red couch with the Canada’s 150 maple leaf logo; and the location of the red couch placement is close to the ‘empty space’ of Canada. The secondary artifact is the invited Canadians who story tell about Canada’s past time and identities. The meaning of the artifact is more than what meets the eyes; this event develops on the theme of unification, storytelling and cultural nationalism. What surprised you about each of these works? In The Birchbark House, I was surprised when Old Tallow told Omakayas the story about why she and Nokomis, her grandmother, didn’t get the chimookoman’s sickness when the rest of her family did. I had completely forgotten that Omakayas was the only survivor of smallpox on Spirit Island. The book was very intriguing making the brief prologue forgettable until I was reminded of it.
In the story, “House of the Scorpions”, by Nancy Farmer, The main character is Matt, although he gets pushed around a lot by people. The main setting is Opium and Aztlan. In the beginning of the story, Matt is made as a clone in a Lab. The main problem/Conflict we find in the story is that people don’t find Matt to be a person. They think he is a beast because he is a clone of El Patron, also known as the druglord.
If they are teenagers they act like teenagers. If they are forty they act like forty year olds. Sometimes they kick their heels up and have a “teenage” good time but only in moderation. However, these issues are a clue in discovering the dysfunctioning behaviour of others.
One Tree Hill is a teen drama/romance television series that aired between the years 2003 and 2012. This show can appeal to teenagers and young adults, and is a very plot driven show that easily appeals to these age groups. Throughout this fictional town, each character has hardships and deals with sensitive issues, such as sexual intercourse, drugs, marriage, adoption, affairs, conflicts etc. What people do not understand is that this series shows realistic events that could occur in high school, and that it also talks about serious problems that teens deal with in their everyday lives.

Through the years, society has created conjectures that we need to meet in order to be accepted by others.
The National Honors Society places a strong emphasis on the cornerstone traits of character, leadership, and service within the school and outside of school. I have met, and exceeded these qualities by being honest, assisting others, and participating in school activities. My character has always been an important aspect within my life. This is because character is comprised of honesty, selflessness, and compassion. No matter what the situation is, it has always been important to me to be honest with not just those around me, but with myself.
Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
In the book “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, it’s about a little girl who is pressured by her mother to become something she doesn’t want to be. Jing- mei , the daughter, is forced to become a prodigy(child actress), by her mother, and she doesn’t want to be one. In the story, Jing- meis’ mother uses allusions such as Shirley Temple to push her into becoming a prodigy. Although at first Jing- mei is excited to become a prodigy, she later realizes its something she just doesn’t enjoy doing. Consequently, the uses of allusion in the story help Jing- mei discover to not be a prodigy and that what her mother wants for her is not always important.
With every new generation of teenagers or young adults, there always seems to be this negative look towards the youth culture. What really strikes me is that it happens with every new generation. It seems like once a person hits their teenage years they suddenly become “rebels” of society, and for what reason? How do most adults see the younger generation? They are young people who have bad manners, no respect for the elderly, they are real tyrants, they do not stand up when elders walk in, they do not listen to their parents or teachers, they talk in the presence of adults, and they eat gluttonously (Socrates).
To be trapped in one's own mind may be the worst prison imaginable. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper", the narrator of the story is constantly at battle with many different forces, such as John, her husband, the yellow wallpaper that covers the walls of her room, and ultimately herself. Throughout the story the narrator further detaches herself from her life and becomes fixated on the yellow wallpaper that surrounds her in her temporary home, slowly driving her mad. The narrator of "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a major and dynamic character as she is the main character of the story, and throughout the story her personality and ways of thinking change drastically.
Stephanie Plum, Morelli, and Ranger are three main characters in the book, One for the Money, by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a young woman struggling to get by in the city of Trenton, New Jersey. After losing her job, she goes against her family’s request and gets the dangerous job of a bounty hunter. She gets assigned Joe Morelli, who was accused of murder and who happened to be a childhood enemy. Stephanie is very inexperienced and receives help from a professional bounty hunter, Ranger.
They talks back and not obeying their parents. They shout at them not realizing the things their family have done to them and not minding their feeelings. They take their family for granted. For me,I’m not that kind of teenager,I always do the things that my family have taught me. I always obey my family because that’s the way I thank them.
