“You fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time” If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin was published in 2002, his fifth novel one of the best he has written, perhaps the best says The Philadelphia Inquirer. If Beale Street Could Talk is a love story taken place in Harlem in the 70’s. Fonny and Tish are in love and their love protects them for my their respective dysfunctional families and the outside world until he was accused of rape. After he goes to prison Tish finds out she's pregnant and tries to fight the case because she know Fonny would never do such a thing. Both their families try to beat the case but they don't really see eye to eye, they're 2 different personalities. They put that all behind them because Fonny is about to be a father and he's in prison from a false accusation.

Sharon is Tish mom and she's very supportive with anything that Tish wants to do. Tish tried to keep it secret that she was expecting but her mom knows her too well. She was so hesitant to tell her because that's something hard to tell your mom especially because she was still 19 years old. “I started to cry. It was her look..we went into room sat down on the end and mama closed the door. She didn't touch me, she just sat there very still. It was like she had to be very together because I had gone to pieces. She said ‘Tish i declare. I don't think you got nothing to cry about.’ She moved a little. ‘You tell Fonny?’” This quote shows how supportive she was when Tish told her. Tish was scared, but her Mom understood and tried to understand her situation. This type of love help Tish go through all the stuff she was going through while Fonny was in Prison. Without her Mother i don't think she would of have done
