Liminality was the term used by Warren St. John, (author) of Outcasts United, to describe how the refugees and residents of Clarkston, Georgia coexisted during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. This transitional phase among the residents caused them to second guess their personal identities and self-worth, isolate themselves, and rethink their overall sense of belonging within the community. A select individual, who managed to address these issues and utilize them to personally develop and even influence skeptics, was Luma Mufleh. The efforts of Luma to solve these conflicts became a testament as to how one person can make a difference.

The use of children in the Sierra Leone Civil War was widespread, with up to 10,000 children taking part in the conflict and up to eighty percent of RUF forces between the ages of seven and fourteen. Ishmael is one of these children. In his memoir, A Long Way Gone, Lieutenant Jabati and his men exploit several techniques to transform these frightened children into ruthless killing machines. They do this through the use of drugs, pop culture, as well as character and emotional manipulation. Tactics like these create habits and addictions that are almost impossible to break.

Since I have read only half of the book, so far I find Soloman Lindo's character very decent when compared to other white people in the town. I agree with Sola because selling Aminata's son could have been a misunderstanding, if Lindo knew that he was Aminata's son then it would have been a different situation. I find his character different because he respects everybody and treats Aminata and Dolly as servants rather treating them as slaves. He teaches Aminata how to read, write, arithmatic and different trades that she would need in order to be self employed to catch babies. This situation is very rare because no white man would treat a black women with so much respect during that time.
Hi Jeannie, our textbook states that “in all walks and periods of life we will be faced with challenges and change” (Bethel University, n.d. P.104). however it goes on to mention that the six building blocks, the will and self courage is what makes a person a change agent because with these skills an individual will have a false start ( Bethel University, n.d.). Jennie in my opinion anyone can and will experience change but it’s how the change influence their lives and it’s how that individual is affected by the change.

Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
