My Brother Sam Is Dead Chapter 1: Page 1-22 Sam is Tim Meeker 's older brother. Tim always looks up to his older brother. Sam then comes home in a uniform at the tavern during April. He starts out by saying "We 've beaten the British in Massachusetts," which sparks up a fight between him and his father which is a loyalist (someone who respects the government and the king). Sam has a discussion with the guests at their tavern and his family on how the Minutemen had surprise attack on the "Lobster backs" (the British) in Lexington.

My Brother Sam is Dead is a novel that focuses on one family’s struggle during the Revolutionary War. It is written by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier. The book focuses on the Meeker family, a family of four, during the time of the American Revolution. Mr. Meeker is strongly opposed to the war because he had fought in one before and saw the horrors that it brought. Sam Meeker, the eldest son, is a patriot.
This chapter “The Ghost Soldiers”, showed us how Tim O’Brien and the other soldiers were dealing with the war both physically and psychologically. It also shows us how the Tim O'Brien behaved and felt when he was shot, wounded and had a bacteria infection on his butt and how the war changed the way he thought, and viewed the other soldiers around him. This chapter also contain a lot of psychological lens. From the way Tim O’Brien felt when he was shot and separated from his unit to a new unit to when he wanted revenge on Bobby Jorgenson for almost “killing” him.

In the novel My Brother Sam is Dead, the Meeker family consisting of a Father name Life, a Mother named Susannah, a rebellious teen named Sam, and a conflicted teen named Tim, journey through the life of colonists owning a tavern during the Revolutionary War. Sam departs from his family to fight alongside the Patriots going against his Father, a Tory. War brings a lot of terrible things, but some examples are families splitting, clash of generation, and an overall theme of principle vs reality. During the war Sam’s father disagreed for him to go into the war as a soldier of the Patriots because they were still loyal to the King George lll. When Sam joined to be part of Patriots, the Patriots wasn’t doing so good as the Loyalist due to the lack of food supply, some of the soldier was man who was under 18 and still a beginner, the cold weather and bad clothing, and the lack supplies of transportation.
The reality of it was shown to them, as they watched the troops arriving to the school. The war had now become something they would have to base their lives off of. The war had slowly taken over life at Devon, and it had encroached through situations such as the boys doing work for the war, talking about enlisting, and watching the troops move into Devon. As they had been going through so many conflicts of their own, they had often seemed oblivious of the growing problem of the war. This oblivion ended, however, when the realization of the war sunk in when the war dominated their lives.

I am Sam is a film about a man named Sam Dawson (Sean Penn) who has a mental disability that constrains his mental capacity to that of a seven-year-old. He has a seven-year-old daughter named Lucy (Dakota Fanning) who turns eight in the middle of the movie, causing a catalyst of events that lead to Sam losing custody. In the film, Sam has a strict routine that he must adhere to or else his whole schedule gets off track. He does not like change and cannot or will not adapt to it easily. This was best illustrated when Lucy wants to go to a new dinner instead of going to IHOP, their regular Wednesday outing.
